Integration combo
Shopify to Algolia integration
Shopify's native search is competent for small catalogues. Once the catalogue grows, the merchandising team needs more: synonyms, boosting rules, per-segment ranking, faceting that reflects how shoppers actually browse. Algolia gives them that. The integration moves product, variant, inventory and merchandising data from Shopify into Algolia indices on a real-time cadence so what's ranked is what's actually sellable. Built and supported as a Patchworks Partner Agency.
Flow shape
Product + inventory sync: Shopify to Algolia
Catalogue and inventory updates flow from Shopify into Algolia in real time so search reflects what's actually in stock and currently merchandised.
- Trigger Shopify Product / inventory event webhook
- Extract Patchworks Ingest queue, dedupe
- Transform Patchworks Build record facets, ranking signals, locale
- Decision Patchworks In stock? availability gate
- Action Algolia Index update partial / full as required
- Writeback Shopify Tag indexed for audit
Illustrative only. The diagram above shows how an integration of this shape works in concept. It is not a screenshot or export of the actual Patchworks process flow; the production flow has more nodes, more branches and more error handling than a marketing page can usefully render.

How Patchworks shapes Shopify to Algolia.
Algolia has an official Shopify app; many merchants run on it happily. Patchworks earns its place where the merchant indexes across multiple Shopify stores, blends catalogue data from a PIM or ERP, or needs index updates to fire on inventory and price changes rather than just product edits. Flows live in Patchworks with full audit trail; runbooks cover the cases where Algolia's reindex queue lags behind merchandising changes.
Got more connectors that need to live in this flow? A 3PL, a marketplace, returns, a PIM, anything. We can do it. Most live integrations end up larger than a pair, all built and supported as one estate. More on multi-platform estates →
Our Patchworks practiceQuestions
Common questions.
-
01 Why not use the official Algolia Shopify app?
If it does what you need, use it. We get the call when merchants index across multiple Shopify stores, blend Shopify with PIM/ERP catalogue data, or need real-time inventory-aware index updates rather than scheduled reindex. -
02 How do you handle out-of-stock products in the index?
Configurable at scoping. The two common patterns are 'hide out-of-stock' (remove from index, easy) and 'show but de-rank' (keep in index with reduced ranking signals). The integration enforces whichever the merchandising team picks. -
03 Can ranking respect customer segment?
Yes. Algolia supports per-segment ranking; the integration pushes the segment signals (B2B price tier, locale, customer group) so search ranks correctly for the logged-in shopper. -
04 Do you support this under SLA after go-live?
Yes. Monitoring on every shipped flow, on-call cover, monthly health checks and tiered response SLAs from £750/month.
