Integration combo

Shopify to Mailchimp integration

Shopify generates customer records and order history. Mailchimp turns them into segmented campaigns. Native connectors handle the easy cases; the Patchworks integration enters where merchants need real control over segment logic, suppression rules and what flows when. Customers, orders and product context move into Mailchimp on a predictable cadence with consent state respected end to end. Built and supported as a Patchworks Partner Agency, with the SLA picking up at cutover.

Flow shape

Customer sync: Shopify to Mailchimp

Customers and order history flow from Shopify into the right Mailchimp audience, with consent state respected and segment tags applied at the boundary.

  1. Trigger Shopify Customer event create, update, opt-in
  2. Extract Patchworks Ingest event with consent state
  3. Decision Patchworks Consented? marketing opt-in check
  4. Transform Patchworks Build profile tags, segments, custom fields
  5. Action Mailchimp Upsert contact into target audience
  6. Writeback Shopify Tag synced for audit

Illustrative only. The diagram above shows how an integration of this shape works in concept. It is not a screenshot or export of the actual Patchworks process flow; the production flow has more nodes, more branches and more error handling than a marketing page can usefully render.

What we sync

1 synchronisations between Shopify and Mailchimp.

Only the data flows that both platforms actually support. Each section below describes what’s in scope, the gotchas we watch for, and how the flow is shaped inside Patchworks.

  1. 01

    Customer sync

    Shopify Mailchimp

Customers created or updated in Shopify flow into Mailchimp with a stable cross-system identifier so the same shopper isn't fragmented into duplicates across the estate. Addresses, marketing preferences, B2B account hierarchies, tax exemption flags and channel attribution are mapped explicitly rather than left to Mailchimp's defaults. Where Mailchimp is the customer system of record (CRM or ERP) we publish back into Shopify so storefront personalisation and segmentation reflect the canonical state. GDPR deletion and rectification are propagated across the integration in both directions.

Typical delivery

3 to 5 weeks for a standard delivery.

Up to 5× faster using PatchBuddy
  1. Week 1 Discovery: consent model, audience structure, segment logic, suppression rules.
  2. Weeks 2 to 3 Build: customers, orders, products, consent gates.
  3. Weeks 4 to 5 UAT with marketing ops, cutover, hyper-care into retainer.

Patchworks delivery

How Patchworks shapes Shopify to Mailchimp.

Mailchimp has a Shopify integration of its own and for most stores that's the right starting point. Patchworks earns its place where the merchant has multiple Shopify stores feeding one Mailchimp audience, custom segment logic the native sync can't express, or consent rules under GDPR/PECR that need an integration boundary to enforce. We build those flows in Patchworks, document the consent logic explicitly and hand over runbooks the marketing ops team can trust.

Got more connectors that need to live in this flow? A 3PL, a marketplace, returns, a PIM, anything. We can do it. Most live integrations end up larger than a pair, all built and supported as one estate. More on multi-platform estates →
